This year the AWCI will be holding it’s annual Apprentice Challenge on Wednesday 1st July, with judging concluding on the same day. You are invited to nominate your outstanding apprentices in the plastering industry. Particulars are contained in the attached nomination package, which includes the nomination form, information for the employer and information for the nominated apprentices.
Qualifying apprentices will be placed in a draw to select a total of 12 apprentices to make up 6 teams of 2.
All nominees will be notified. These teams will then construct a display to show their skills, knowledge and competencies at TAFE Queensland SkillsTech, Acacia Ridge.
These displays will then be judged by our judges Troy Delaine and Phil Vanslyke and the winning team will be announced at the 2020 Awards of Excellence on Saturday 15th August 2019 at the Southport Sharks
The AWCI will provide accommodation and airfares for Regional Apprentices, including food and drinks
on the day. Materials will be supplied, however the Apprentices are to bring some of their own tools. All competing apprentices will receive a complimentary ticket to attend the 2020 Awards of Excellence
The 20202 Apprentice Challenge will be held at TAFE Queensland SkillsTech at Acacia Ridge. Competitors will work in pairs and are asked to construct the project described with the plans given to them on the day.
Skills List/Marking Criteria
Each project will be judged by a panel of experts using
the following criteria as a guide:
> Framing > Fixing > Cornicing > Setting > Clean up > Safety > Ornamental Ceiling Rose installation (if applicable)
Time allocated to complete the project is 7 hours.
Tools and equipment for Competitors
Following is a list of tools and equipment each competitor will be required to bring to the competition.
It is a guide only, you may bring any other tools of trade which you use in the day to day undertaking
of your occupation.
> 8m tape
> Cordless drill
> Tin snips
> Setting tools
> Screw gun
> Broad knives
> Stanley knife
AWCI will supply T square, spirit level, mitre box and saw.
Winners of the Queensland competition will be selected to compete at the National Competition at the National Conference in March 2021.
